Several classes of dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments are marketed in the United States. They include collagen based fillers, hyaluronic based fillers and calcium hydroxyl apatite fillers. These fillers can last from three months to three years depending on the filler being used and the area being treated.
The dermal filler Sculptra is in a class of medications known as bioactivators used to stimulate the growth of collagen and provide a gradual increase in skin thickness. Sculptra should be used in patients with volume loss and thinning skin. Sculptra is given in a series of treatments to fill sunken cheeks and thicken the under side of your skin. Sculptra should be repeated every two to three years and is a great maintenance program on patients with signs of volume loss or thinning skin.

The filler is significantly thicker than other dermal fillers and for that reason is used to fill the deep smile lines and correct scar depressions.

Smoother dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvaderm are used for plumping lips filling fine lines around the lips and eyes. Botox by Allergan injections are used to smooth moderate to severe frown lines of the forehead, between the brows, and crows feet.
