How many women have absolutely fuzz-free faces naturally? Hardly any, despite the airbrushed perfection we see in the media every day. While living with a certain amount of fuzz is always an option, many women feel self-conscious about their “mustache” or excess facial and chin hairs. For these individuals, waxing is a safe, effective solution to that less-than-desirable facial hair. Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Med Spa’s licensed aestheticians offer their expertise in the area of facial waxing. We proudly serve Atlanta, GA, and the surrounding areas and provide safe, high-quality waxing services so women can feel more confident when out and about.
What Is Waxing?
Waxing is a semi-permanent method of hair removal. It removes the hair from the root so that the new hair does not grow back for around two to six weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including areas of the face. At Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery we focus on the main problem areas of the face, including the upper lip and chin and the brows. Many men have also begun to opt for waxing as an alternative to shaving their facial hair.
How Does Waxing Work?
There are plenty of ways to remove unwanted hair, but waxing is one of the best and most convenient options. Waxing is a process that removes the hair from the root by applying wax and allowing it to trap the unwanted hairs so they can be pulled out. Over time, the hair grows back with decreased density and a finer texture.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Waxing?
Most individuals with unwanted facial hair are good candidates for waxing and can achieve a smooth, hairless feel. However, those with sensitive skin and people prone to breakouts may not be ideal candidates for waxing. People taking blood-thinning medication, oral acne medication, or a medical exfoliant should avoid waxing as these medications can make the skin more sensitive.
Dear Dr. DeJoseph, I wanted to send you a note to thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me. You and your entire staff are exceptional. You make my procedures so personalized and make me feel like I’m your #1 priority. I am truly grateful and truly blessed. Sincerily.
What Are the Benefits of Waxing?
Many methods of hair removal are time consuming and painful, but waxing is quick and not as painful as other methods. Since waxing is able to target large surface areas, it can get rid of a lot of hair at once, unlike threading and plucking which tend to take more time.
While it covers a large surface area, waxing is also very precise. This means that it is an ideal hair removal method for the eyebrows. Other benefits of waxing include long-lasting results. Many individuals enjoy smooth skin for two to six weeks.
Another advantage of waxing is that over time it prevents hair from growing back, as long as treatments are maintained. Each waxing treatment leads to a small amount of damage to the hair follicle, which can eventually prevent hair regrowth in that area altogether. People often notice hair grows back finer after having one or more waxing treatments.
How to Prepare for Treatment
Individuals preparing for a waxing treatment should follow certain best practices. Prepping the skin and hair follicles ensures the hair is removed properly and is at the lowest risk for irritation.
DAYS BEFORE WAXING:
- Allow plenty of time before waxing so that the hair grows to ¼ to ½ inches in length.
- Stop using any skin peels, retinoids, or acid products on the skin at least two weeks before waxing.
- Take it easy on exfoliating as some products may irritate the skin, making it more sensitive to waxing. However, a gentle exfoliating the night before treatment is encouraged.
THE DAY OF THE WAXING TREATMENT:
- Avoid sun exposure as it will increase the skin’s sensitivity.
- Cleanse as normal but avoid using creams and makeup the day of the waxing treatment. A light moisturizer can be used, if necessary.
Areas We Treat
Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Med Spa’s licensed aestheticians focus their attention on facial waxing, including the areas of the upper lip, the chin, and the eyebrows.
Upper lip waxing – The upper lip is an area where hair naturally grows on most women. While some women are perfectly comfortable with a little peach fuzz, others prefer to remove their pesky whiskers. Some women come to see waxing on the upper lip as simply part of their normal routine.
Chin waxing – Unwanted chin hairs can sprout up without warning, but they can be just as easily eliminated in seconds with waxing. Professional waxing can not only rid the chin of unsightly hairs, it can cause the hair to grow back thinner or make it stop growing altogether.
Brow waxing and shaping – Some would argue that the eyebrows are one of the most important features of the face. Eyebrow waxing can easily change a person’s entire look and create the effortlessly chic brows so many people envy. At Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, our experienced, licensed aestheticians take pride in providing outstanding brow shaping and waxing results for our clients.
Waxing Services FAQs
The most common side effects of waxing include skin irritation, redness, and ingrown hairs.
Proper aftercare can prevent side effects most of the time, however, it is possible for them to occur even if proper aftercare instructions are followed. Individuals with sensitive skin should proceed with caution if they are considering waxing treatments. It is always important to have the waxing treatment done by a reputable licensed aesthetician to reduce any chance of adverse effects.
It depends on the person’s threshold for pain. Some people may feel only a mild stinging sensation, while others more sensitive to pain may experience more discomfort. The advantage is that waxing is super quick and takes only a matter of minutes. Keep in mind that pain tolerance is lower around menstruation, so it may be best to schedule your appointments away from this time.
Some individuals experience ingrown hairs after waxing because the hair lining is disturbed. However, there are a few ways to prevent ingrown hair growth. These include avoiding direct sunlight, harsh makeup products, and excessive heat 24-48 after the wax treatment. 24 hours post-wax, aloe vera and other products your aesthetician recommends can soothe the affected area. After 48 hours has passed, exfoliating the area can help prevent ingrown hairs.
If you have ever gotten a bad eyebrow wax, then you know the feeling of horror that can ensue. This can easily be avoided by doing your research and choosing a licensed and reputable aesthetician. At Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, our licensed, award-winning aestheticians have many years of experience performing waxing treatments.
