Who Should Get Eyelash Tinting?
Eyelash tinting is a good option for anyone who wants to add some extra flair to their lashes without the hassle of putting on any mascara. People with naturally light lashes often find eyelash tinting especially beneficial to their overall facial aesthetics.
The following individuals often get the most use out of eyelash tinting: athletes, people sensitive to makeup products, and those that find makeup to be a time-consuming hassle. Individuals that may not be ideal candidates for eyelash tinting include people with highly sensitive eyes.
What Is Eyelash Tinting?
Eyelash tinting is a treatment that defines and tints (colors) the lashes in a safe, fast and affordable way. This treatment is a great way to achieve the natural dark lash look without the mess or fuss of mascara.
Patient Reviews
The Eyelash Tinting Process
The first step of the eyelash tinting process is filling out a questionnaire. This ensures that the treatment is right for the patient and lets the aesthetician know of any additional factors they will need to take into account during the eyelash treatment. Once eligibility is determined, the aesthetician will work with the patient to determine the right color. Many individuals with naturally dark lashes choose the darkest blue-black color. Those with lighter lashes often choose black or brown.
The actual eyelash tinting process is quick. First, the aesthetician starts by washing the eye area with a mild cleanser. A barrier cream is applied to the area surrounding the eye to prevent any staining. Once the eyes are prepped, the lashes will be painted. Using a very fine brush, the pre-mixed tint is painted onto the lower lashes. It is important that the tint is applied to the lashes from root to tip. Otherwise, there will be a distinct line where the color has not been placed, clearly not the desired result.
Once both sets of lower lashes are done, the tint is applied to the top lashes with the eyes closed. The dye stays on the lashes to process for 10 minutes before being wiped away. Proper cleanup of the lashes is crucial to avoid a “raccoon eye” look. The aesthetician instructs the patient to keep their eyes closed while the tint is removed from the lashes. Once the protective eye patches are removed and any leftover cream is removed, dark, separated lashes are immediately apparent.
What is Eyebrow Tinting?
While there are many treatments that remove hair from the brow area, brow tinting does not disrupt the brows or remove any hair. Brow tinting uses semi-permanent dye to enhance the color, thickness and shape of the natural brow. Results can be seen immediately following treatment.
Who should get Eyebrow Tinting?
It is no debate that the eyebrows can have a huge impact on a person’s appearance. While not everyone has effortlessly chic brows, they can be achieved with brow tinting. Anyone with fine, sparse, or light eyebrows looking to enhance the look of their face can benefit from eyebrow tinting.
Individuals who develop allergic reactions to henna or hair dye containing para-phenylenediamine should not have eyebrow tinting done, as they might experience a similar reaction to the brow tint. Our aestheticians discuss any allergies or possible reactions with all candidates prior to treatment to ensure this does not occur.
The Brow Tinting Process
Before anything else, a patch test is done first on the patient’s skin to make sure there is no sensitivity. Once it is determined that there will be no adverse reaction, the licensed aesthetician can go ahead with brow tinting.
The aesthetician assists the patient in finding the perfect color of dye to apply to the brows. It’s important to choose a shade that isn’t too “matchy-matchy”. Our experienced aestheticians are brow specialists and can help clients find the best color for their skin tone, hair color, and individual preference. Once there is a consensus on the perfect shade, a high-quality vegetable-based dye is applied to the brow area. The entire process takes about 20 minutes.
Prior to the brow tinting appointment, it is important to follow these prepping steps to maximize the brow tinting results:
- Eyebrows should be left alone for at least two weeks prior to the appointment. This makes the brow shaping go more smoothly.
- Avoid tweezing in the “no tweeze zone” to avoid overplucking.
- Avoid magnifying mirrors as they can cause overplucking.

Eyelash & Brow Tinting FAQs
Eyebrow tinting gives off the impression that the results are just about color. However, brow tinting is about more than changing the color, but also about changing the shape and thickness of the brow. It can make your arches thicker, complement a new hair color, and give your brows a sleeker, more defined look.
This treatment is performed without removing any hair. Benefits are immediate and clients instantly look more groomed with their “new” brows.
Yes, eyelash tinting is safe if it is performed by a highly trained and licensed aesthetician who is experienced and knows what they are doing. The aestheticians at Premier Image Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Med Spa know the right questions to ask prior to treatment to ensure candidacy for the treatment. Clear instructions are provided, such as removing contact lenses prior to the procedure if applicable.
Eyelash and brow tinting results both typically last between three to six weeks. It varies from person to person. The results can be extended by keeping the brows and lashes hydrated using a special serum your aesthetician can recommend. Refrain from using exfoliating alpha hydroxy and glycolic acid cleansers as they can strip the color from the brows and lashes. Be gentle on the eyes and avoid rubbing them or using your fingers to remove clumps of mascara.
Be picky when it comes to finding a reputable licensed aesthetician. Choose someone who is experienced and highly trained in eyelash and brow tinting. Make sure that the medspa you choose is reputable and uses only the highest quality materials.
