Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion has crossed over from Hollywood to the mainstream. It’s being advanced as an Instant Facelift by the medical industry. Microdermabrasion is an effective skin care treatment that gently removes the epidermis or top layer of the stratum corneum which encourages vasodilatation, improved cell nutrition, improved skin elasticity, and improved skin texture. Microdermabrasion is a safe, non-invasive procedure for resurfacing the skin and is used to treat sun damage, weather damage, scarring, wrinkles, and other superficial skin concerns of the face, neck, chest, and other areas. Also, referred to as the lunchtime peel, this skin resurfacing treatment requires no downtime.

Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types and particularly Asian, Hispanic, and African American skin types, as there is no risk for skin discoloration, and it restores these skin types to a more youthful, radiant appearance. There is no age range for the use of microdermabrasion. It is appropriate to use on problematic and acne-prone skin, rosacea, and sensitive skin. The Procedure

Microdermabrasion by skincare professionals is an effective treatment that gently resurfaces the skin with tiny crystals, combined with gentle abrasion for superficial ablation of the epidermis or outer layer of the skin. Abrasion of the stratum corneum removes keratin cells and the mortar layer between the cells, allowing for more topical serum penetration of nutrients into the dermis. This in turn will help in the formation of a new stratum corneum layer on the skin. The new skin is youthful and radiant with marked improvement of the old skin imperfections.

The crystals are immediately vacuumed away, resulting in the removal of the top layer of the stratum corneum. The vacuum action increases blood flow into the dermis, increasing fibroblast activity, which in turn causes an increase in collagen and elastin formation.

The vacuum closes up large pores, removes dead skin cells, and plumps and tightens the skin. Microdermabrasion resurfacing stimulates the production of collagen, which in turn improves skin elasticity and thickness while smoothing and tightening the skin.

After Microdermabrasion

After recovery, you will experience smooth skin; softer and more receptive to pharmaceutical-grade skin care products rich in vitamins and nutrients. Patients should use suitable sun protection following these skin care treatments. Results are immediate, however, a complete treatment protocol is 6 to 8 treatments, spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart, and followed by one treatment every 2 to 3 months.
