What is Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling is a procedure that enjoys widespread popularity with those looking for skin treatments. It involves a device with several small needles that make tiny punctures in the skin. This fosters collagen production, making the skin more elastic and youthful.

PRP which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma is an added component that ensures greater results. PRP is either injected or used topically on the treated area. Besides offering better results, PRP can also minimize the time it takes for the swelling and redness to go away.

Why Choose Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling with PRP is minimally invasive. Other than the pricking of the tiny needles, there is no incision to concern yourself with. The treatment boosts your appearance while requiring virtually no downtime. If you are concerned with being able to get back to your daily routine without setbacks, Microneedling with PRP is a great option.

Stimulating your body’s collagen production mechanisms will ensure that the results are natural. Also, it only takes a couple of treatments for results that will last many months. Your skin will continue to improve well after you have left the specialist’s office.

Good Candidates for Microneedling

Conventional microneedling is a technique that people of all ages use. It delivers results for scars, stretch marks, and some people even use it for hair loss. For Microneedling with PRP, everyone is a great candidate provided they do not fall under a few categories.

Pregnant women should avoid the procedure as well as those that have recently used Accutane. Those that have active acne shouldn’t receive treatment in the affected area. Additionally, if you scar easily or have poor wound healing capabilities, the doctor may advise against Microneedling with PRP.

People with certain skin conditions such as rosacea will be advised against treatment. Finally, those with skin radiation in their recent 12-month history shouldn’t undergo treatment.

The Microneedling with PRP Procedure

Microneedling with PRP treatment at our Atlanta office doesn’t require excessive preparation and is something you can easily schedule for. Let’s look at what happens before and after treatment as well as during the session itself.

Preparation for Microneedling

The doctor will give you all the information you need for preparing to receive treatment. They will advise you to avoid too much sun exposure to the affected area for a few weeks before treatment. Having plenty of water is another recommendation your doctor will make.

You should arrive makeup-free and also refrain from using moisturizer on that day. Arranging for a ride should be something you do for your convenience and comfort although it isn’t a definite requirement.

During Microneedling Treatment

The first step involves a skin cleansing and the application of a topical anesthetic. It may take up to half an hour for the anesthetic to take effect, so be prepared for a short wait.

Microneedling lasts about 30 minutes and involves the specialist using a microneedling device on the affected area. The doctor will draw a syringe of blood that will produce the PRP necessary for treatment.

With the PRP solution ready, the specialist applies it to your skin either topically or by injection. The method of application depends on your skin condition and your doctor’s judgment.

Patient Reviews

I am so very grateful to have found Premier Image Cosmetic! I saw Ashleigh and she gave me the best medical spa experience I have ever had. Not only was my Hydrafacial and Microneedling service AMAZING, but Ashleigh was SO knowledgeable of the products used and what I could take home with me to continue taking the best care of my skin. I have struggled with problem skin throughout my life, and she knew exactly the right regimen (Obagi!) to keep my skin improving/looking great. The staff as a whole is so professional and friendly, I cannot wait to go back for more! 💛🧖🏻‍♀️

Recovery after Microneedling

When the procedure is over, the doctor will apply a soothing compound to reduce irritation. Your doctor will also tell you whether you can apply makeup to conceal any redness. Providing you have no adverse reactions, you can go home at this point.

Recovery is mild enough to allow you to go to work the next day if you choose to. Cleansing once a day and moisturizing liberally as needed will be enough.

It’s a good idea to avoid using alcohol-based products on the affected area until you heal completely. Also, avoid exfoliants and refrain from intense physical activity. You don’t want sweat contributing to further irritation and potential swelling.

FAQs about Microneedling with PRP

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Your blood includes plasma, a compound that contains proteins that help your blot clot when needed. It is also rich in growth factors that support cell functions. Your doctor isolates PRP by separating plasma from your blood and then concentrating it.
PRP promotes fast healing and is an integral part of rehabilitation regimens. The substance is used to treat a wide variety of ailments from damaged joints to hair loss.

Are there any side effects?

The fact that PRP comes from your blood minimizes the chances of any reactions to the substance. Since tiny punctures are made to the skin, there is a risk of infection. However, the specialist will take every precaution before and after treatment to bring that risk to zero.
Those that experience cold sores may have an outbreak as a result of treatment. Make sure you inform the doctor beforehand so that they account for this.

When can you expect to see results?

Your body will start producing collagen after the procedure but it isn’t an instantaneous process. Visible results may take a few weeks to appear. As your skin heals, these results will continue to become increasingly apparent. As a general rule, you should expect a noticeable improvement after four to six weeks.

What can you do to maximize results?

The best way to maximize your results from Microneedling with PRP is by being kind to your skin. The same preventative measures for keeping your skin youthful apply here.
Hydration is great for your overall health and beautiful skin in particular. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to facilitate the healing process.
Keeping your sun exposure to a minimum is also helpful for maximizing your results. Sunbathing or spending long periods outdoors will only dry your skin out while UV radiation produces free radicals in the skin. Minimizing free radicals should be the goal of everyone aiming to combat aging. If you will be spending time out in the sun, make sure to use sunscreen appropriate for your skin type.
