Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures

Aging of the face is inevitable and as we get older, it becomes more difficult to retain the youthful, healthy glow. Age, sun exposure, gravity and genetics all contribute to the aging face. The skin begins to appear drier and thinner. Collagen, the protein that binds the skin together, begins to break down and, with time, the skin of the face and neck loosen. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth become wrinkles, and gradually deeper folds develop. The jaw line softens into jowls and, beneath the chin, excess skin starts to sag and produce the appearance of an extra chin or a "turkey neck".

While you can't stop the aging process, you can "Turn Back the Hands of Time". Rhytidectomy, or a facelift as it is commonly called, has become the third most desired cosmetic surgical procedure. A facelift cannot stop the aging process, but it can restore a more youthful appearance and help you look your best.

Doctors Louis DeJoseph and William E. Silver are Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and by the American Board of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. Our doctors are world-renowned as a leaders and teachers in their field of facial plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Dr. DeJoseph and Dr. Silver stay on the cutting-edge of the latest advances in facial plastic surgery and are innovators in the field and frequent lectureres.

There is no ideal in a facelift. Skin type, ethnic background, degree of skin elasticity, individual healing and basic bone structure are factors that are considered during the consultation. We offer several different facelift procedures:

Before we discuss these facelift options, it is valuable to understand how important the consultation can be in deciding which procedure is ideal for your needs and goals.

Doctors DeJoseph and Silver spend at least an hour with each new patient during consultation to review not only the procedure but the patient's goals and desires as well. "Video Imaging" is one of the most helpful, communicative tools as it allows the patient to try on the facelift. As we discuss how the procedure is performed, you actually see your own image restored to a youthful appearance. It allows you to try on the facelift and it gives you the opportunity to address any other areas of concern.

"You never go from the consultation to the operating room," states Dr. William Silver. "After deciding to schedule the facelift, we bring the patient back in for a pre-operative appointment. This gives us an opportunity to re-evaluate their medical history and review individual risks, especially medical conditions such as high blood pressure, a tendency to scar, smoking, and any deficiency in blood clotting. We think of the preoperative appointment as a teaching experience for both us and the patient. The 'video imager' is, once again, a useful tool for the patient as we review the photographs and discuss expectations, concerns and recovery time."

"Successful facial plastic surgery is a result of good rapport between patient and surgeon. Trust based on realistic expectations and exacting medical expertise develops in the consulting stages before surgery is performed," says Dr. DeJoseph.

   Chin Enhancement

atlanta chin enhancementChin enhancement procedures using implants take just thirty minutes to an hour to complete on average. They are commonly performed with local anesthesia and sedation, though general anesthesia may also be an option. Incisions may be located on the inside of the lower lip or on the skin just beneath the chin. An implant of the appropriate size and shape is then inserted through the incision and placed over the jawbone.
