Eyelid / Blepharoplasty

Do you look in the mirror and wonder why you look so tired?

Dr Silver - Blepharoplasty, Atlanta GA

Are you starting to notice that your lids are drooping with excess skin and under your eyes there is a puffiness that never seems to go away even when you get a good night's rest? It may be time for you to consider blepharoplasty or often referred to as an eyelift.

The eyes are often the first area of the face to show signs of aging and therefore eyelid surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries at Premier Image.  As people age, excess skin forms in the eye area, wrinkling can occur, and there is a loss of elasticity.  Fatty tissue may accumulate under the skin.  Most patients are 35 years or older but sometimes droopy eyelids are hereditary and you may opt to have the surgery at a younger age.  In some cases excess skin is so severe that it can interfere with you being able to see clearly.  Premier Image will provide you with pictures of yours eyes for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for the eyelid surgery.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?

eyelid surgery atlanta blepharoplastyDuring your consultation with one of the facial plastic surgeons, he will take pictures of your face and then use computer imaging which allows you to see how you will look after the surgery is performed. Often patients will combine an eyelift with other facial procedures such as a brow lift or a QT Mini Face Lift.

What Happens in the Blepharoplasty Procedure?

Having grown up in a family of medical doctors, DeJoseph never thought twice about his decision to study medicine. His father, a renowned cardiologist, took his young son on many rounds at the hospital and to his office. DeJoseph grew up not with a silver spoon, but with a stethoscope in hand. He would later fulfill his own dreams of becoming a highly respected and well sought after doctor of facial plastic surgery.

Dr. DeJoseph received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology, graduating Cum Laude in his competitive class at King's College. Subsequently he received his doctorate of medicine from the College of Medicine at Penn State. Dr. DeJoseph completed his residency in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and was one of only 38 surgeons selected worldwide to undergo further specialty training in facial plastic & reconstructive surgery in affiliation with Emory University here in Atlanta, Georgia.

The eyelift procedure may involve removing fat pads under the eye, along with excess skin and muscle, from the upper and lower lids. Incisions are made along the line creases of the upper eyelid and possibly along the outer lower rim of the eye's skin.  On a full eye lift another incision is made inside the lower rim of the eye's skin. Eyelid surgery is often performed under local anesthesia in our out-patient surgery center.

How long is the Healing Process?

The tissue around the eye heals very quickly so this procedure has minimal downtime. You will be instructed to rest after the surgery with your head elevated.   Use ice packs to reduce swelling and bruising.  Oral medications are prescribed to help with any pain or discomfort.  Often patients can resume moderate activities in a few days with the help of a little makeup and sunglasses.  Stitches are removed in about a week. Because of where the surgical incisions are made, scarring is essentially unnoticeable.  Blepharoplasty can make a big difference in helping to restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance to your eyes.
