Beautiful Nose – Breathing Beautifully! |
Rhinoplasty, or what is commonly referred to as a nose job, is a surgical procedure whose purpose is to correct deformities of the nose.
What constitutes a beautiful nose? Actually a beautiful nose is one that is balanced to the individual's face. What is considered a beautiful nose on one person might not look good on another. Therefore, it is important to choose a surgeon who will listen to your desires and be honest about how it's going to look and function. It takes a very experienced and skillful Rhinoplastic surgeon to perform a beautiful and balanced nose operation correctly and to make it function properly. The board certified surgeons at Premier Image Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, William E. Silver, M.D. and Louis M. DeJoseph, M.D. have years of experience performing Rhinoplasty surgery, and have extensive training in this specialized field. They are well known in the medical community for their work in Rhinoplasty and obtain many of their patients are referrals from other physicians, locally and around the country. Dr. William E. Silver teaches a Rhinoplasty course and he's written chapters on the art of Rhinoplastic surgery for several major textbooks.
A person who decides to have Rhinoplasty is often one who has thought about it for some time. They have been unhappy about the shape, size, length, width, functioning of the nose or they may simply feel their nose lacks harmony with the rest of their face. At times, patients have deformities on the inside of the nose which impair breathing, causing headaches, or sinus trouble, which cannot be satisfactorily corrected without simultaneously straightening the external nose.
The first step in deciding if Rhinoplasty is for you, is meeting for a consultation with either Dr. Silver or Dr. DeJoseph. This is probably the most important step in helping you to achieve the desired results both aesthetically and functionally. During the consultation the doctor studies your medical history, asks questions about what you would like changed, and inquires about any problems you may be experiencing in breathing. The doctor then performs an exam of your nose and checks for any obstructions. Your picture is taken from several different angles. These pictures are loaded into a special computer imaging program that morphs your image from your existing nose to the potential outcome. It's almost like being able to try on your new nose.
Surgery on the nose is performed in Premier Image's outpatient surgery center located on their main campus in Atlanta. Upon completion of the Rhinoplasty procedure, a small adhesive splint is applied to the nose, and a small amount of soft cotton is inserted into each nostril (not the entire nasal passages). Medications taken during the week prior to surgery play a tremendous part in the reduction of swelling and discoloration. The dressings and the packing are removed at the office about 5-6 days following surgery.
While there is no insurance coverage for cosmetic nasal surgery, there may be available insurance coverage for functional nasal surgery. The office staff at Premier Image Cosmetic and Laser Surgery will discuss this with you and assist you in obtaining pre certification for functional surgery if your insurance indicates eligibility.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most rewarding surgeries that Dr. Silver and Dr. DeJoseph perform. One patient tells of how she had been embarrassed and teased about her large humped nose for her entire life. Now that she has her new look she remarked "It's still me but having my nose changed has just given me so much more confidence!"
Another patient came to Premier Image after having Rhinoplasty performed by another physician. The surgery left her with a severely twisted and deformed nose as well as breathing problems. One day her mother made a comment about how she wasn't in any of the family photos. The reason, she told her mother, was that she couldn't stand to look at herself in a photo. After having the Revision Rhinoplasty at Premier Image she came to one of her follow up visits and brought a picture of herself with her new baby daughter!
