Chin and Cheek Enhancement

The face is not a one-dimensional structure, and there are many different aspects that go into the harmonious appearance of it. Volume can be added to it through check or chin implants, which give a second dimension to the face. This can achieve a rounding of the cheeks or add structure to the lower area of the face.

At Premier Image, implants made of a soft, rubber-like silastic material that truly conforms to the underlying bony structures of the face are used. Implant surgery is often performed under a local anesthetic with a little oral sedation, and on average only takes about thirty minutes to an hour to complete.

Cheek implants are placed with tiny, small incisions underneath the upper lip inside the mouth. This gives Dr. Silver or Dr. DeJoseph access to the cheekbone area. The same applies to the chin augmentation. A small incision is made underneath the chin and the implant is slipped in, giving structure to this area. Often times chin augmentation is used with rhinoplasty because the chin and the nose are like first cousins: one affects the other. If someone has a large nose, the chin needs to be in the right proportion so that it looks correct from the profile view.

The cheeks are similarly affected. If someone has very low cheekbones or sallow cheeks, these areas act as the hangers for the face. A nice prominence of the cheek area when thinking about rejuvenating the lower part of the face is logical because this is where the rest of the face hangs off of. Dr. DeJoseph and Dr. Silver always take this into account when they're looking at the two dimensional structures of the face and how they can build the aesthetic appearance the you are looking for.

The implants may be inserted in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift, or they may be inserted as a separate procedure. Some bruising and swelling may occur after chin and cheek enhancement, and patients may experience some difficulty with facial movements like talking and smiling. Most patients find that they are well enough to return to work about one week after their chin and/or cheek enhancement procedure.
